ABSTRACT |
Wind tunnel tests have been executed to investigate the low speed aerodynamic characteristics of a natural laminar flow (NLF) airfoil, NLAM78. The NLAM78 was originally designed as a transonic NLF airfoil with the design Mach number of 0.78 whose aerodynamic characteristics for Mach numbers between 0.6 and 0.85 were reported in references 1 and 2. Lift and drag coefficients as well as surface pressure distribution were measured at wind velocities V∞ of 20,40 and 60m/s for various angles of attack. The characteristics of NLF airfoil were also weakly observed at low speeds. We also conducted suction tests under almost the same conditions as non-suction ones, which verified large drag reduction for almost all test conditions. |
