    ABSTRACT Free jets are interesting phenomena from an engineering point of view, for example from that of interaction between gases and solid surfaces and the application of molecular beam. In industry, free jets are utilized in mass separation of mixed gases and are also widely in related molecular beam epitaxy technology for manufacturing thin film from semi-conductors. Free jets can be obtained by the expansion of gases from a high pressure chamber to a low pressure chamber through orifices or nozzles with a sufficiently large cross section ratio. This paper provides a brief outline of an experimental apparatus for flow visualization by LIF(Laser Induced Fluorescence)method using an argon ion laser. Experimental results obtained by flow visualization of argon free jets mixed with iodine(I2)from continuum to free molecular flow regime are also shown and analysis of the jet structures using image processing discussed.
