ABSTRACT |
A method for onboard measurement of gravity gradients is proposed in this paper. First, the theory of a conservative field and its gradients is briefly reviewed, ancept of the measurement system is clarified. It is then analytically shown that a gravity gradiometer system can be configured using twelve single-degree-of-freedom (SDF) accelerometers or six two-degree-of-freedom (TDF) accelerometers or four three-degree-of-freedom (THDF) accelerometers. The measurement accuracy related to the arrangement errors of each accelerometer is quantitatively evaluated. Then the applicability of the gravity gradiometer for a strapdown inertial navigation system is verified by simulation using the model of the moving vehicle. Finally, it is concluded that a new type of inertial navigation system using gravity gradiometers can be configured when it becomes possible to precisely measure gravity gradients. |
