ABSTRACT |
Mechanical loading tests were performed on a carbon-carbon composite elevon control surface to determine the structural adequacy of this concept for hypersonic flight environments and to compare test data with analysis. This paper describes the test component, the analytical methodology, and the test techniques and setup used to apply the mechanical loads and determine the control surface뭩 response to applied load. The results from the room-temperature mechanical load tests are compared with analytical predictions from finite element analyses. In addition, the planned thermal-mechanical test program is presented and discussed.
