Boiling- A Phase Change Phenomenon: For Engineering and Science Stream

    Anand Gondchawar|

This book is useful in study of the boiling heat transfer phenomenon. It is useful to Engineers, Science students etc. who are studying boiling process. This book is extremely important to Mechanical Engineering students who are studying Heat Transfer subject (For Curriculum, seminars and projects). This book provides knowledge of boiling in a very simple language. Boiling is the most effective heat transfer method because of its high performance due to latent heat transport, thus allowing to reduce volume, size and weight of heat exchange devices. This improves the thermal performance of components for the process industry and power plants. Therefore, boiling heat transfer plays a very important role for a wide number of applications in many technological and industrial areas, including energy production. Boiling is the liquid to vapor phase change phenomenon occurs at solid-liquid interface. This book explains different types of boiling like Pool Boiling and Flow Boiling. Pool boiling is the absent of bulk fluid flow. Flow boiling or forced convection boiling is the presence of bulk fluid flow. Pool and flow boiling are further classified as sub-cooled and saturated boiling. It explains in details pool boiling curve for water. Different phenomenon like evaporation and condensation are also studied. Various Correlations for Nucleate pool boiling are discussed in detail. Advances in boiling with CFD numerical simulation also discussed. Boiling heat transfer is used in a variety of industrial processes and applications, such as refrigeration, power generation, heat exchangers, cooling of high-power electronics components and cooling of nuclear reactors. Boiling is used for cooling electronic components. Some electronic components are cooled by boiling by immersing them in a fluid with an appropriate boiling temperature.
