ESDU 92032 introduces a Basic program, ESDUpac A9232, that applies to neutral atmospheres or strong winds. It is provided on disc for use on PC DOS systems in compiled form with user-friendly prompting for input data. It can be used to calculate at specified heights from a knowledge of the reference wind speed the hourly-mean wind speed and maximum gust speed, and the turbulence intensity, integral length scales and spectral density of the longitudinal, lateral and vertical components of turbulence. Alternatively it can be used to correct measured wind properties (such as those from a meteorological station) to values for some specified terrain. The program takes into account topographical effects on wind speed due to the location of the site anywhere on a hill or in a valley, or in proximity to an embankment, or escarpment or cliff. Variations in terrain roughness upwind and of water surface roughness with wind speed are also accounted for. The input to and output from the program are fully explained, and a worked example illustrates its use. |
